ABOUT YAMA YOGA:
Yama Yoga was established in 2009 by Valerie Jeremijenko as Qatar’s first Yoga studio. Our goal was always to offer the Doha Community a space to practice in a welcoming environment and to share our passion and knowledge. With Covid 19 we closed our in person studio in September of 2020 but continue to offer the same quality of classes online and at our new center in partnership with Ananda Yoga and Detox, Koh Phangan, Thailand. We also now offer extensive retreat and teacher training options at our retreat centers in Bulgaria and Thailand.
ABOUT THE FOUNDER OF YAMA YOGA STUDIOS:
Valerie Jeremijenko
Valerie Jeremijenko, BA (Hons), MFA, PhD, ERYT 500, has been practicing and teaching yoga since 1991. She opened Yama Yoga Studios in 2009 to support the development of her students and to offer yoga and wellbeing programs to the Doha community. To date she has graduated over 250 200-hour teachers and 50 teachers from the 300-hour program who now teach at Yama Yoga studios and world-wide. Valerie is also the editor of How We Live our Yoga (Beacon, 2001) a collection of literary essays about the way yoga transforms our lives published by Beacon Press in 2001. She now lives between Bulgeria and Thailand where she directs Yama Yoga’s teacher training programs, retreats and practice intensives.
As a teacher Valerie is both charismatic and nurturing and infuses her classes with compassion, humor and intelligence. She sees each practice as an archetypal voyage and tries to lead her students into the meaning, story and power of each pose. Her class forms include dynamic lead astanga, creative vinyasa, and technical workshops. She also offers classes in myofascial release, breathing, yoga nidra, and mediation.
